"Just…leave it," Amelia sighed, the words barely audible. The stack of unopened mail on the kitchen counter felt like a physical burden. She sat at the table, running a hand through her tangled hair. Light from the open window slanted across the room, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air.

She picked up the letter, a faded envelope bearing a childish drawing. It was addressed to her sister, written during their childhood. The childish script detailed a secret, a wish for a new doll. It brought back a time of innocence, a time when her worries weren't so dense and crushing. Amelia felt the sting of tears. She had lost so much and sacrificed even more. It was a bitter, confusing feeling.
